Welcome to Walworth Designs
Walworth Designs is an established yacht design firm located on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. The primary focus is in multihull design, both sail and power; this is not to the exclusion of monohulls. Engineering services for existing boats, such as stability calculations or analysis of structural issues, are available. We have provided structural engineering services for existing boats needing modifications and for projects that are still in the design phase. Further, WD has provided structural engineering services for marine components such as trim tabs, passerelles, and replacement daggerboards.
David Walworth, the owner and chief naval architect, has 20+ years of experience in the yacht business. Unlike many designers, he has actually built boats professionally before turning to designing them. This is a valuable advantage, as he understands what information is required by the builders and how to design a boat to be easily built. To gain this experience, after completing the design program at the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design in 1989, he went to work for Eric Goetz at Goetz Custom Sailboats for 5 years. In 1994, he left Goetz to attend MIT. In 1996 he graduated with his Masters in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. In January of 1997 he and his wife, Dr. Michelle Peterson, moved to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands to work for Gold Coast Yachts as a naval architect. In May of 2000 he struck out on his own, establishing Walworth Designs.
