Abigail is the owner's dream boat, his final design project as a student in the Westlawn design program. The hull is cold molded construction with a Corecell foam core. The remainder of the structure and the deck is foam cored glass. Epoxy resin is used throughout, naturally. WD was contracted to engineer the boat, as the owner was not fully comfortable with doing the engineering. WD provided all the structural engineering of the boat, the CAD files for cutting of the molds, and full size mylar patterns for the main interior components.
Abigail was beautifully built at Aquidneck Custom Composites in Bristol, Rhode Island. She was launched in July of 2007. In 2008 she participated in the Newport-Bermuda Race. Bill Koffler, the owner of Aquidneck Custom, sailed on her and reported back not a creak or groan the entire time. The owner is very pleased with the end result.
